Expectations of Session Members
Before You’re Ordained
Participate in Officer Training prior to ordination and installation.
Personal Expectations
Pray for fellow elders, whole church, this particular church, members with special needs.
Encourage each other through honest expressions of love.
Be a friend and companion in ministry with pastors and staff.
Make a commitment to be a working elder and an elder who provides leadership.Provide leadership in your financial support and move toward tithing.
Be a good listener to members who are excited or concerned about the life of the church. Seek out opinions of members to inform and guide the discernment process.
Grow spiritually through your duties and opportunities.
Fully engage in the prayerful discernment of God’s will for FPC.
Expectations of Service
Make your commitment to the office of Ruling Elder and service on Session a
priority these three years. The Session needs leaders who are committed but who
also know how to balance this commitment with the rest of their lives.Serve on one of the Councils/Committees of the Session.
Attend the session retreat if planned.
Attend a presbytery meeting at least once during your term.
Serve communion.
Expectations of Support
Be active in the programs of the church – visible leadership.
Attend funerals, when possible, even of those you do not know. Offer care and prayer for those in need.
Welcome visitors and new members and help them become involved.
